TB and HIV

Home » About TB » TB and HIV

The risk of developing TB is estimated to be between 12 – 20 times greater in people living with HIV than among those without HIV infection.

Infection with HIV affects the way that TB is treated.

In the UK up to one third of people infected with HIV are unaware of their status. Universal HIV testing means that all individuals attending TB clinics are offered and recommended a HIV test as part of their routine care. This is applicable to all patients irrespective of their age, and the offer of the HIV test is not based on individual risk factors.

We provide care for those who have both HIV and TB (dual infection).
